The FT frames the war as Washington's strategy problem, Foreign Policy as the West's price problem. Both make a Middle Eastern war legible without a single Middle Eastern person in it.
The Financial Times reported, in neutral policy-desk register, that regime change is back on the Trump agenda — a "Plan A" menu of uprising, armed proxies and an exile figurehead, with the Iraq and Libya ledger nowhere in view. Foreign Policy recast the same war as a supply-chain event: Brent, spare capacity, "2.5 million barrels a day at risk," the Gulf states present only as barrels and chokepoints, Iranian dead outside the frame. The Economist's verdict — a "strategic disaster," Trump its "biggest loser" — indicts the war chiefly for damaging American power.
Assessment: Pro-war menu, anti-war lament and market analysis converge on one vanishing point: America is the subject, the Gulf and Iran the scenery. The omission is not a stray fact left out — it is the war's human center left out by the design of the frame. Read the register, not just the verdict.
