A Sudanese locality administration says an RSF force crossed from Ethiopian soil into Blue Nile
Kurmuk governorate says the attackers who struck Al-Keili set out from Ethiopian territory, and the army says it destroyed nine combat vehicles. No Ethiopian response, and no non-Sudanese source, has appeared.
Local authorities in Blue Nile said the Sudanese army had repelled an RSF attack on the Al-Keili area of Kurmuk locality, near the Ethiopian border. The Kurmuk governorate said the attacking force set out from Ethiopian territory. The army said it had carried out a pre-emptive strike south of Al-Keili that killed RSF personnel and destroyed nine combat vehicles. Sudan Tribune’s Arabic file of 18 September carries the episode as a second strand of its North Kordofan report; Asharq Al-Awsat timestamped its account Friday 18 September at 00:40, and Al Arabiya published at 12:57 GST, sourcing it to “Al Arabiya and Al Hadath channel sources” — that is, to unnamed sources. The vehicle figure is an SAF claim. The cross-border assertion is an administrative claim by a Sudanese government-appointed locality body, not a finding.
Kurmuk has produced this shape of announcement before. Al Jazeera Arabic reported on 4 June 2026 that the SAF had announced repelling an RSF attack on Al-Baraka near Kurmuk, claiming dozens of fighters neutralised and combat vehicles destroyed or seized, with no RSF comment at all. The town has changed hands during the war and both commands announce victories there as a matter of routine. Nothing retrieved in the 17–19 September window contains an Ethiopian response, a UN or panel finding, or third-country confirmation of the crossing.
Assessment: Note the channel, not just the content. A cross-border accusation against a neighbouring state, made by a sub-national administration rather than by the foreign ministry or Port Sudan, puts the allegation into circulation while leaving the sovereign free to disown it. That is a familiar instrument and it costs nothing to deploy. Until a body other than the Kurmuk locality administration places the force on Ethiopian soil, the reportable event is the accusation and the question of who gains from making it — read alongside the Kordofan claims, where the same 48 hours produced no independent battlefield verification of anything either side said.
