IRGC addresses twenty-five pages to American midterm voters, five weeks before the ballot

Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi, spokesman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, presented the 25-page letter on Tuesday 29 September, timed to the 3 November US midterms. It urges Americans to oppose US support for Israel and foreign wars, offers “peaceful coexistence,” and accuses Trump of concealing what it calls the “peaceful nature” of Iran’s nuclear programme. “We wrote a benevolent and compassionate letter to the American people,” Mohebbi said, in remarks reported by Newsweek. Mehr, the Iranian state agency, quoted him saying Americans “can live peacefully with Iran if they separate themselves from Israeli regime.” Press TV, also state-run, carried his rhetorical set-piece on the nuclear file: “About 25 years ago, the then US president announced that Iran was only a few weeks away from acquiring nuclear weapons. I ask the American people: Have those few weeks not elapsed over the past 25 years?”

Mohebbi cast the letter as a serious attempt at direct communication rather than a propaganda gesture, noting that Iran lacks the television and radio reach available to the United States, and worked through a list of American grievances — the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, the US withdrawal from the JCPOA. According to Capital News Point, he said he did not expect the letter to shift US policy immediately, and the text accuses the administration of using the nuclear programme as a pretext to target Iran’s natural resources and wealth. Newsweek noted the IRGC repeatedly channelled US voter frustration, in language mirroring Trump’s own about the Islamic Republic, and that its power has expanded since the war began in February. One widely circulated line — that Mohebbi called Trump a “big liar” — reaches English via Fox News Digital citing the New York Post, and has not been matched against the Iranian state agencies.

The letter’s full text, in Persian or English, has not surfaced as a primary document.

Assessment: The press conference happened; everything inside the document is an assertion by a designated military organisation and should carry that label in every retelling. The interesting admission is Mohebbi’s own: he does not expect the letter to change policy. That makes the target the war’s domestic price rather than its terms. An organisation whose institutional weight has grown since February has an obvious interest in an American electorate that tires of the campaign before Tehran’s negotiators have to concede anything at the Qatari channel.
