Gantz’s party is physically struck from the slips as polls show neither bloc reaching 61
The Central Elections Committee confirmed Blue and White ballots will not appear on 27 October. JPost’s polling average has the Zionist opposition at 51.25 seats against 51 for Netanyahu’s bloc.
Benny Gantz announced Monday night that Blue and White was withdrawing from the 27 October election after polls consistently showed it falling short of the 3.25 percent threshold. On Wednesday the withdrawal was procedurally completed: the Central Elections Committee announced that Blue and White ballot slips will not appear at polling stations after every candidate on the slate formally withdrew. Gantz told JNS, “I always was, and forever will be, a soldier of Israel, before everything,” and told the Times of Israel he would “continue to fight for unity” from the sidelines. The numbers behind him have not moved the arithmetic. Four JPost poll round-ups over twelve days converge on the same finding: Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar ahead of Likud — by four seats in the 21 October round-up — with neither bloc reaching a majority. Thursday’s average: 51.25 for the Zionist opposition, 51 for Netanyahu’s bloc.
Two other threads belong in the same frame. Security for Naftali Bennett has been doubled in recent days, the Times of Israel reported Thursday, to a level equivalent to that of a defence minister, after threats and attempted attacks including salt shakers hurled at him during a campaign stop in Bnei Brak that struck two staff members, one requiring treatment. Yisrael Beytenu says its chairman Avigdor Liberman has received a series of death threats and has filed a further complaint with the Knesset sergeant-at-arms — a party claim, presented by the Times of Israel as such. Meanwhile Netanyahu publicly called the arrests of haredi draft evaders a “deliberate attempt to harm the process of drafting Haredim without coercion”; 27 detainees were freed after pledging to enlist. The same week, the IDF chief marked the first officers commissioned from the Hasmonean Brigade for haredi troops.
Assessment: The headline number to handle carefully is 51.25 versus 51. It is an average of polls whose constituent pollsters, field dates and sample sizes JPost does not publish in the summary, and a quarter-seat gap five days out is noise dressed as a finding. What is not noise is the direction of travel across twelve days: Eisenkot consistently ahead on party, consistently short on bloc. That combination is what makes a security crisis electorally legible — a campaign with no path to 61 is a campaign that needs the ground to move. Read the prime minister’s attack on draft-evasion enforcement in that light: it is an argument aimed squarely at coalition partners he cannot govern without, delivered at the moment they are cheapest to buy and most expensive to lose.
